Dubai-based renewables developer AMEA Power is progressing with its 500-MW Abydos solar project in Egypt, announcing on Tuesday the completion of the 33/220 kV substation building structure for the installation.

The building structure was completed in 90 days, the company said on Linkedin.

The Abydos Solar Power Company (ASPC), which is wholly owned by AMEA Power, is managing the construction and will own and run the solar power plant.

The project is located in Kom Ombo, Aswan governorate, and has power purchase agreements in place with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC). The developer has also signed usufruct agreements with Egypt’s New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA). According to AMEA Power’s website, the project is scheduled to start commercial operations in the first quarter of 2025.

AMEA Power recently announced progress on another project in Egypt - the installation of the first turbine at its 500-MW Amunet wind development.

In September 2023, the Egyptian cabinet approved AMEA Power projects for the installation of 1 GW of solar and 500 MW of wind capacity in the country.
