Poverty rate in Egypt drops by 3%

According to statistics from Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics. The country’s poverty rate has dropped to its lowest level in 20 years.

According to the organization, Egypt’s poverty rate decreased by 2.8 percent to 29.7% in the 2019-2020 fiscal yea. Which is down from 32.5 percent in 2017-2018. Also it went on to say that this demonstrates the country’s achievement. Which is in pursuing social justice in tandem with the state’s economic reforms.

According to the organization, Egypt’s extreme poverty rate fell to 4.5 percent in 2019-2020. Which is down from 6.2 percent in 2017-2018.

“The growth in the size of the family is a cause and a consequence of poverty”. The agency said, citing a link between rising family sizes and financial instability. At the same time, it is the result of impoverished families without enough social security. Also so turning to having more children as a source of income when they are old or unwell.”

CAPMAS Report on the Egypt Poverty Rate

According to CAPMAS, 80.6 percent of people in families with 10 or more members are poor. Also 48.1 percent of people in families with 6-7 members are poor as well. However compared to 7.5 percent of those in families with less than four members.

According to the organization, education levels are the most important indication of poverty. Since poverty rates fall as people’s levels of education grow.

In 2019-2020, 35.6 percent of Egyptians without a formal education were poor. Also compared to 9.4 percent of university graduates.

According to CAPMAS, the Egyptian government is “making a lot of efforts”. Which is to protect the underprivileged in order to improve residents’ quality of life.
