Some 15,000 companies have joined the advanced cargo information (ACI) system since its application on 1 July, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait said on Wednesday.

“This significant number reflects the business community's willingness to benefit from the advantages the ACI system provides, including the reduction of cargo clearance and the reduction of import and export process, which will improve Egypt’s ranking in international indices,” said Maait.

Maait revealed that 2,200 companies have registered 18,000 successful custom transactions on the system since its pilot launch in April.

He noted the pilot stage was extended through September, stressing that it is the final opportunity for importers, their agents, and multinational companies to join the ACI system.

The ACI system provides public and private trade operators with holistic electronic cargo information prior to the arrival of good shipments in the country of importation in order to boost processing and clearance.
